Chapter 7: The Lower Columbia and Baker Valley Trek
Robert Stuart and his expedition begin their exploration at the mouth of the Columbia River. They encounter treacherous waters, and rugged country. The troupe encounters the Chinook, Crow, Snake and Shoshone Indians. They overcome difficulties and gradually make their way to the Oregon/Idaho border. |
Chapter 8: The Snake River Plain
As their journey continues, Robert Stuart and his men observe the fishing methods of the Snake Indians and write with great expression of the salmon runs in the middle Snake Region. The men are hopeful and anxious to find a cache of clothing, ammunition, and food hidden the previous season by one of their men. |
Chapter 9: Grand Tetons to South Pass
Stuart and the expedition press on despite hardships dealt by the Indians, the lack of plentiful food, sickness, and the threat of death by his own men. They chart their journey through Idaho and into Wyoming's Yellowstone region. |
