Travel with Alexander Ross and others as they journey up the Columbia River from Fort Astoria to establish Fort Okanogan, an inland fur-trading post. Discover the Columbia River as it was and meet the natives along the way.

Chapter 1: Expedition to the Interior
John Jacob Astor's Pacific Fur Company begins fur trading operations in the Pacific Northwest. In the summer of 1811 a team is sent from Fort Astoria, near the mouth of the Columbia River, to establish a fur trading post in the interior of the territory.

Chapter 2: Celilo Falls to the Snake River
As the Astorians travel up the Columbia, they encounter the untamed river and the people who live along its banks. Trading and bartering with the natives becomes a way of life to ensure safe portage.

Chapter 3: Establishment of Fort Okanogan
On the last leg of their journey, the Astorians find the natives friendly and helpful. At last they come upon a valley that will serve as the site for the new trading post; Fort Okanogan.
